New Year, New Goals

Now is the time of year to set your goals for 2016. These goals do not need to be grand, they only need to give you direction in creating a better you.

The first step in creating your goals is to understand and decide what is important to you. By doing that, you have identified the what and why of your goals; what the goal is and why you want to achieve it.

Knowing what is important to you is only one aspect of goal setting. Below are a few other points to keep in mind;

  1. Write them down! That way you won’t forget your goals
  2. Create a timescale for yourself. Having an idea of how long it will take you to achieve your goal is key. This also helps you develop a plan of action
  3. Do not create too many goals. If you pull yourself in too many directions it is hard to keep focused on the task at hand
  4. Think of problems as challenges

When creating your goals it is helpful to make them SMART; S – specific, M – measurable, A – achievable, R – realistic, T – timely. SMART goals lead to success but also allow you the opportunity to revisit them every two or so months to ensure that you are moving in the right direction.

Now go, set SMART goals, reframe your mind to see problems as challenges and most importantly, have faith in yourself so you can achieve great things in 2016!
